Joel, many thanks for your comments. I completely agree—technical issues aside, the most important aspect is Stephen’s story and how he’s using AI. It was a great honor for me to have the opportunity to help him share his journey and the challenges he faces with Parkinson’s.
I listen to HOS "religiously" every day. It's the first thing I tune into on my desktop before checking my emails, and I leave it on while working. I'm so thankful I discovered HOS years ago. I've still got hundreds of cassette tapes of hour-long programs, lol! While I was sad to hear of Stephen's Parkinson's diagnosis, I'm happy to know AI has replicated his voice so well. I'm currently listening to program 1400, and the voiceover is incredible!
Hi Tim, that's so fascinating. I, too, had listened to HOS for years. A bit more off and on than you do but still, I always came back to it. I was fascinated in some way that I cannot describe.
One of my enjoyments comes from the sheer fact that each one is handcrafted by someone who really cares about the music. It's a welcome relief to listen to music without being constantly interrupted by advertising or algorithmic suggestions on what to listen to next. Reminds me of FM radio at night in the 70s. I miss those times of hearing an entire album without interruptions.
I don't know what compelled me to reach out to Stephen. Initially, it was blind faith. I just decided one day, I would try to contact him and attempt to ask the potentially outrageous question - would he be interested in doing an interview, and by chance was he using any kind of AI tools. I expected a big NO, or no answer at all.
But he did write back. The fluency and depth of his emails sound like listening with on his shows - only more personal. He said he was interested but had a huge request: would I mind interviewing if he did his side using AI?
How could I NOT say yes!!!
So thank you for writing your note. Warms my heart knowing others like HOS as much as I do.
I am a long time listener/subscriber to HOS. The web site has gone dark - any news of what has happened? I thought it might be the wild fires. I don't know any other way to find out, then I happened on your podcast. My heart is breaking that HOS might be truly ending
Thank you, Tom. Stephen's career path is so interesting, and his voice - whether AI-generated or otherwise - is still captivating and beautiful.
